Package Overview

One dive. Everything included.

One dive, everything included, site selected for your certification level. As an Open Water diver you are cleared to 18m, and Malta gives you a lot to work with at that depth: the MV Rozi, the Cirkewwa reef systems, and the shallow sections of HMS Maori. Your guide picks the right site for conditions and your experience.

Kit is checked and fitted on arrival. Briefing covers entry, route, hand signals, and emergency procedure. You dive.

  • Full equipment provided and sized on arrival
  • Expert guide leads the dive throughout
  • Site matched to Open Water certification (max 18m)
  • Full pre-dive briefing: entry, navigation, hand signals, emergency procedure
  • Marine life at depth: grouper, bream, octopus, moray eels
  • Walk-ins welcome when space permits
SINGLE DIVE · DAY STRUCTURE Arrive at shop Bring cert card. Measurements taken for kit fit. 08:00 Kit check & fitting BCD, regs, wetsuit, weights. Guide checks all gear. 08:20 Dive briefing Site, route, signals, emergency procedures. ~15 min. 08:40 DIVE ~50 min 09:00 Surface & debrief Kit rinsed, logbook stamped if requested. ~3h MAX DEPTH 18m (site-dependent) · CERT LEVEL Open Water minimum

One dive. Advanced access.

Advanced Open Water certification opens the deeper wreck sections and wall dives that define Malta's underwater landscape. A single dive at this level means access to sites like the P29 patrol boat, the MV Karwela off Ghajnsielem, or the outer hull of the Um El Faroud at 35m. Your guide selects the site based on conditions and what you want to see.

Kit fitted on arrival, full briefing before entry. One focused dive, properly executed.

  • Full equipment provided and sized on arrival
  • Expert guide leads the dive throughout
  • Site matched to AOW certification (max 30m)
  • Access to deeper wreck profiles: P29, MV Karwela, Um El Faroud outer hull
  • Full pre-dive briefing including depth plan and turn pressure
  • Any certified diver, any agency

One dive. Technical depth.

Technical certification means the guide plans around your actual gas mix and depth limits, not a recreational ceiling. A single tec dive at diveshack means the full briefing: planned depth, run time, gas switches if applicable, penetration route on wrecks with overhead. Malta's sites reward proper planning at this level.

Bring your cards, log, and configured equipment. Confirm stage or deco gas availability when booking.

  • Dive planned to your certified tec depth and gas configuration
  • Guide qualified to brief and lead at technical levels
  • Access to full wreck penetration routes: Um El Faroud, ORP Kujawiak, P29
  • Run-time and gas plan discussed in full pre-dive briefing
  • Stage and deco gas available on request (confirm at booking)
  • Logbook signed off with depth, time, and gas data

You're diving to 18m. Advanced Open Water takes you to 30m and opens Malta's best wrecks.

The P29 patrol boat, MV Karwela off Ghajnsielem, and the Um El Faroud outer hull at 35m are all out of reach on an Open Water card. The SSI Advanced Open Water course at diveshack takes 2 days and is completable within your dive week. The sites you unlock afterwards are in a different category.

Four days. Three specialties. Full access to Malta's overhead environments.

The diveshack Triple Specialty bundle combines Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Nitrox in four days. Nitrox extends bottom time on the wrecks you're already diving. Wreck Diver certification opens full penetration on Um El Faroud, the P29 deep sections, and the ORP Kujawiak. Deep Diver pushes your depth limit and unlocks the Blue Hole wall in full.

Extend your tec range. diveshack runs the full SSI XR course pathway in Malta.

The XR progression at diveshack runs from Extended Range through Hypoxic Trimix. Each level adds planned depth, deco gas, and a wider site range in Malta. Combine course training dives with dive packages and you log cert dives on real sites.

What to Expect

Malta is diveable year-round. The Mediterranean's enclosed geography means no significant swell for most of the year, and water clarity is consistently excellent. Summer months bring glass-flat conditions and 24–27°C water. Winter diving is popular with experienced divers who appreciate empty sites and 20–25m visibility.

Current

Generally light. Some northern sites see mild current at the arch. Always manageable with guide planning.

Best time

May through October. Peak summer gives the warmest water and flattest conditions. Book ahead in July and August.

Visibility

Among the best in the Mediterranean. Average 22–32m depending on season. Harbour sites slightly less than open coast.
