Package Overview

Three dives. Maximum day.

Three dives across one day is the fastest way to cover Malta's range as an Open Water diver. Morning and afternoon dives are planned at Open Water-appropriate depths. The third dive, often late afternoon, is typically a shallower profile with high marine life density: damselfish, barracuda, amberjack, and octopus are common at this time of day.

Full kit throughout, three briefings, all sites chosen by your guide based on conditions and your cert level.

  • Full equipment for all three dives
  • Three separate site briefings
  • Sites selected for Open Water certification across all profiles
  • Planned to give maximum site variety in one day
  • Marine life: damselfish, barracuda, amberjack, octopus, grouper
  • Any certified diver, any agency

Three dives. Progressive depth.

Three dives with AOW certification means the guide can plan a proper progression: a deep wreck to start while you are fresh, a mid-range site after the surface interval, and a shallower third dive to maximise bottom time late in the day. Sites like the P29, MV Karwela, and Cirkewwa reef in a single outing are a realistic combination at this level.

Full kit for all three dives. Three briefings, each site-specific and depth-planned.

  • Full equipment for all three dives
  • Guide builds a depth-progressive three-dive plan
  • Deep wreck access in the morning, reef or wall dives later in the day
  • Three full briefings with depth plan and turn pressure
  • Typical combination: P29 + Karwela + Cirkewwa reef
  • Any certified diver, any agency

Not available for technical divers.

Technical dives are limited to one dive per day. Three tec dives in a single day is not safe or offered. Decompression obligations from a tec dive require full surface recovery before any repeat dive at depth.

For multiple tec dives across your stay, the Six Dive Pack or larger packs allow one tec dive per day scheduled around your holiday. The Single Tec Dive package covers a single guided tec dive.

  • Tec diving: 1 dive per day maximum
  • Single Tec Dive package available for one tec dive
  • Dive packs (6, 8, 10+) allow tec diving at 1 dive per day
  • Any SSI XR, PADI TecRec, or GUE cert accepted

You're diving to 18m. Advanced Open Water takes you to 30m and opens Malta's best wrecks.

The P29 patrol boat, MV Karwela off Ghajnsielem, and the Um El Faroud outer hull at 35m are all out of reach on an Open Water card. The SSI Advanced Open Water course at diveshack takes 2 days and is completable within your dive week. The sites you unlock afterwards are in a different category.

Four days. Three specialties. Full access to Malta's overhead environments.

The diveshack Triple Specialty bundle combines Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Nitrox in four days. Nitrox extends bottom time on the wrecks you're already diving. Wreck Diver certification opens full penetration on Um El Faroud, the P29 deep sections, and the ORP Kujawiak. Deep Diver pushes your depth limit and unlocks the Blue Hole wall in full.

Extend your tec range. diveshack runs the full SSI XR course pathway in Malta.

The XR progression at diveshack runs from Extended Range through Hypoxic Trimix. Each level adds planned depth, deco gas, and a wider site range in Malta. Combine course training dives with dive packages and you log cert dives on real sites.

What to Expect

Malta is diveable year-round. The Mediterranean's enclosed geography means no significant swell for most of the year, and water clarity is consistently excellent. Summer months bring glass-flat conditions and 24–27°C water. Winter diving is popular with experienced divers who appreciate empty sites and 20–25m visibility.

Current

Generally light. Some northern sites see mild current at the arch. Always manageable with guide planning.

Best time

May through October. Peak summer gives the warmest water and flattest conditions. Book ahead in July and August.

Visibility

Among the best in the Mediterranean. Average 22–32m depending on season. Harbour sites slightly less than open coast.
