The one skill set every diver should carry.

You do not need to be a diver to take this course. You do not need prior first aid training. What you need is a few hours and the willingness to learn how to handle a diving emergency before one happens around you.

SSI React Right covers CPR, rescue breathing, and the correct use of emergency oxygen equipment. It is a mandatory prerequisite for the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue course, and it meets the first aid certification requirement for anyone working toward the SSI Dive Guide or Divemaster rating.

The course runs in a single day. Theory is completed through SSI eLearning before you arrive. The day itself is practical: mannequin CPR, oxygen mask and demand valve assembly, and scenario-based response drills.

React Right runs as a single full day combining pre-completed eLearning theory with a structured practical session. You leave with a certification, the muscle memory for CPR, and the knowledge to deploy emergency oxygen correctly.

  • CPR technique on a training mannequin: hand placement, compression depth, rate

No. SSI React Right is open to anyone aged 12 or over. You do not need a dive certification, prior first aid training, or any experience in the water. The course is designed to be accessible to divers and non-divers alike. If you are a diver looking to satisfy the first aid prerequisite for Diver Stress and Rescue, this is the right course.
You will practise hands-on CPR technique on a training mannequin, rescue breathing using a pocket mask and bag-valve-mask, and how to set up and administer emergency oxygen using a demand valve and non-rebreather mask. The practical session ends with a full scenario drill covering a diver retrieval situation from water exit through to handover to emergency services.
Yes. SSI React Right, or an equivalent recognised first aid certification, is a listed prerequisite for the SSI Diver Stress and Rescue course. If you are planning to progress along the SSI leadership pathway, completing React Right at this stage makes practical sense.
The SSI eLearning licence (€94) gives you access to the full SSI React Right digital learning program through the SSI app or web platform. It covers the theory of CPR, rescue breathing mechanics, emergency oxygen use, recognition of diving injuries including decompression sickness and near-drowning, and how to activate emergency services in a dive context. You complete it at your own pace before arriving for the practical session.
The SSI React Right certification is valid worldwide with no expiry date. SSI recommends refreshing your CPR and first aid skills every two years to maintain practical competence. We offer standalone refresher sessions at diveshack on request. Contact us via WhatsApp to arrange one.
