All recreational courses are SSI certified with no expiry date. diveshack runs them year-round in Malta, Gozo, and Comino.
One session in confined water. No certification, no experience. The fastest way to know if scuba diving is for you.
The world-standard entry cert. Four ocean dives in Malta, eLearning at your own pace, internationally valid. Zero to certified in 3-4 days.
Five adventure dives including deep, navigation, and three of your choice. Unlocks the Cirkewwa arch, Blue Hole, and Malta's main wreck trail.
Planned deep dives to 40m. Buoyancy management, gas consumption, narcosis awareness. Opens Um El Faroud and Malta's most requested wreck dives.
Longer bottom time on every repetitive dive between 18m and 30m. One day, two dives, changes how you plan every dive after.
Scenario-based rescue skills and self-rescue. Most divers say it is the best course they have done. Required before any leadership or professional rating.
Penetration techniques, safety protocols, and line use on real Malta wrecks. Four wreck dives on named sites. Malta has the best wreck diving in the Med.
Three night dives. The Rozi after dark is a completely different dive. Torchlit hull, cuttlefish on sand, octopus moving across the deck.

No swimming ability is required for Try Scuba. For Open Water Diver certification, you need to be comfortable in water and able to swim 200m (or 300m with a mask, fins and snorkel). diveshack instructors assess comfort in water before and during confined water sessions.
3 to 4 days at diveshack. This includes eLearning (completed at your own pace before or during the course), confined water skill sessions in sheltered conditions, and a minimum of 4 open water dives in Malta's clear water. You receive an SSI certification with no expiry date on completion.
Try Scuba is open from age 8. Open Water Diver certification starts at age 10 (Junior Open Water Diver to 12m if aged 10-14; full 18m from age 15). Advanced Open Water starts at age 10. Deep Diver and Rescue Diver require a minimum age of 15.
Yes. Try Scuba is designed for complete beginners with no prerequisites. Open Water Diver is the entry certification course and starts from zero. Both are available year-round at diveshack, typically in sheltered water at Sliema or Cirkewwa.
Yes. SSI certifications are accepted at dive centres and sites globally with no expiry date. SSI is one of the two largest scuba certification agencies in the world and a member of the WRSTC, which sets international training standards.
Try Scuba is a single session (1-2 hours) in confined water to a maximum of 5m. You receive a recognition card but not a scuba certification. Open Water Diver is a full certification course (3-4 days, 4 open water dives) that allows you to dive independently worldwide to 18m with no expiry.
