What is the SSI Scuba Diver Course?

The SSI Scuba Diver certification is an entry-level diving programme designed for complete beginners. It’s the perfect first step into the underwater world — giving you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to dive under the supervision of a Dive Professional to a maximum depth of 12 metres / 40 feet.

Once certified, you can dive with any SSI dive centre worldwide, and easily upgrade to the full SSI Open Water Diver certification whenever you’re ready to go deeper.

If you are already certified to dive, upload a picture/screenshot of your highest qualification level e.g. Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver etc. If you don’t have it with you don’t worry we can do it later.

(max file size 100 MB)

If you haven’t dived for 6 months or more you will need to refresh your core diving skills. These include: Mask clearing, regulator recovery & clearing, neutral buoyancy, air sharing ascent & emergency weight drop at the surface

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to swim? You should be comfortable in the water, but you don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer. Basic water confidence is all that’s required.

Is scuba diving safe? Absolutely. With proper training, scuba diving has an excellent safety record. Our instructors are highly experienced and your wellbeing is always the top priority.

I’m nervous — is that normal? 100%! Most of our students are first-timers and a little apprehensive. Our instructors are patient, encouraging, and experienced at helping nervous beginners feel at ease. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your nerves turn into excitement.

Can I wear glasses or contact lenses? Contact lenses can usually be worn under a dive mask. Prescription masks are also available — just let us know in advance.

How long is the certification valid? For life! However, if you haven’t dived for a while, we recommend a refresher course to get back up to speed.
