Prerequisite

One programme. Two certifications. Zero duplication.

The SSI XR Hypoxic Trimix 80 and 100 combo runs both courses as a single continuous 6-day programme under one instructor. Progression dives at the end of the Trimix 80 section feed directly into the start of the Trimix 100 section - several dives serve dual purposes, reducing total gas consumption and time compared to booking the courses separately. You receive your Trimix 80 card on Day 3 and your Trimix 100 card on Day 6.

The combo is structured for divers who hold SSI Technical Extended Range Trimix (60m) and are committed to the full XR tec depth range. The training is continuous - there is no administrative reset between the two courses. A single instructor plans all 11 dives, manages your decompression profile progression, and tracks your CNS oxygen accumulation across the entire programme.

  • Hold SSI XR Hypoxic Trimix 80 and 100 certifications on completion
  • Operate across the full 80-100m depth range with appropriate gas mixes
  • Plan and execute multi-gas profiles with up to 60 minutes of decompression
  • Manage gas consumption, CNS tracking, and equipment configuration for extreme depth
  • Complete continuous progressive depth training from 40m to 100m in one programme
  • Save time and cost vs enrolling in each course separately

Gases Used

Four-gas programme.

The combo programme uses four gases across its 11 dives. The bottom gas changes at Day 4 when the Trimix 100 section begins. All gases are prepared and analysed at diveshack before each day of diving.

Dives 1-5 (Trimix 80)
Trimix 12/65
12% O2 / 65% He / 23% N2
MOD 80m

Hypoxic bottom gas for the Trimix 80 section. Pre-breathe from EAN50 below 6m on descent.

Dives 6-11 (Trimix 100)
Trimix 10/70
10% O2 / 70% He / 20% N2
MOD 100m

Leaner hypoxic mix for the Trimix 100 section. Higher helium fraction reduces narcosis and HPNS risk at extreme depth.

All Dives
EAN50
50% O2 / 50% N2
MOD 21m

Travel gas used throughout the programme. Surface to 21m on descent and from 21m on ascent. Mandatory switch point.

All Dives
O2 100%
100% Oxygen
MOD 6m

Decompression gas at 6m and 3m stops. CNS tracking is cumulative across the full 6-day programme.

Combining both courses in one programme reduces total helium consumption versus two separate bookings. All gas costs are itemised separately at the time of application.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is the combo cheaper than booking both courses separately?
Yes. Several dives serve dual purposes across the two courses, reducing total gas consumption and instructor time. We will confirm the specific saving when you apply - contact us for current combo pricing.
Do I receive both certification cards at the same time?
No. The Trimix 80 card is issued on Day 3 when the certification dive is successfully completed. The Trimix 100 card is issued on Day 6. You leave the programme with two separate SSI XR certification cards.
Can I pause between the Trimix 80 and 100 sections?
Yes. If you complete Trimix 80 and want to pause before continuing to Trimix 100, we can split the programme. You hold your Trimix 80 card and return for the Trimix 100 section when ready. This is treated as a separate booking.
What if I fail the 80m certification dive?
We will not proceed to the Trimix 100 section until the Trimix 80 certification is successfully completed. An additional dive may be scheduled if conditions allow, or the Trimix 100 section is deferred. Any additional dives are charged at cost.
Can I do this programme on a liveaboard?
The programme is structured for shore and boat diving from Malta and Gozo. Liveaboard options may be available for a private group booking. Contact us to discuss.
