Biology
Deposit feeder that uses sticky, branching oral tentacles to collect organic matter and detritus from the seabed. Processes significant volumes of sediment, playing an important role in nutrient recycling.
Deposit feederSexes are separate, with eggs and sperm released into the water during summer spawning events. Larvae develop through a planktonic stage before settling on soft substrates.
Broadcast spawnerExpels thick, white, sticky Cuvierian tubules from its anus when threatened, entangling and irritating predators. These specialised defensive organs regenerate after use.
