Campogramma glaycos
Bony Fish
Range
A pelagic-to-demersal species found from the surface to around 200 metres, usually over or near continental shelf edges and offshore reefs. In the Mediterranean, it favours areas with strong currents and clear water.
Sightings are logged by divers using our What Did You See? dive-log tool. View the full live sightings map.
Prefers open water near steep drop-offs, rocky headlands and offshore pinnacles. Juveniles are sometimes found closer to shore under floating debris or near harbour walls.
Best approached slowly and calmly. Avoid casting shadows directly over the animal. Neutral buoyancy and patience increase encounter success significantly.
Biology

Pursuit PredatorSpawns in open water during the warmer months. Little is known about specific reproductive behaviour in Mediterranean populations, but eggs and larvae are pelagic.
Open-Water SpawnerRelies on speed and agility to escape larger predators. Often stays close to structure or reef edges that provide escape routes into deeper water.
