Rocky Reef habitats, typically at depths of 5-80m. Most commonly encountered by divers at the shallower end of its range.
Best approached slowly and calmly. Avoid casting shadows directly over the animal. Neutral buoyancy and patience increase encounter success significantly.
Biology
Feeds on tiny benthic invertebrates, copepods and organic particles from rocky and sandy substrates. Forages close to its shelter within a small home range.
Micro-predatorMales guard clutches of eggs deposited on rock surfaces or inside empty shells. The male fans and defends the eggs until hatching.
Nest guarderIts golden, semi-transparent body blends with sandy and rocky substrates. Retreats into crevices and under stones when threatened.
