Inhabits the very top of the water column in warm, clear open waters. Most often seen near the surface in offshore areas or around floating debris and current lines.
Best approached slowly and calmly. Avoid casting shadows directly over the animal. Neutral buoyancy and patience increase encounter success significantly.
Biology
A fast pursuit predator that chases down small schooling fish near the surface. Uses its elongated jaws to snatch prey with sideways strikes.
