Identification & Biology

A shallow-water species found on rocky substrates throughout the Mediterranean. Occupies small territories on boulders, rock faces, and in crevices in the first few metres of water.

Preferred Environment

Prefers sunlit rocky surfaces and small crevices in very shallow water. Often found alongside other small blenny species on the same rock faces.

Encounter Tips

Best approached slowly and calmly. Avoid casting shadows directly over the animal. Neutral buoyancy and patience increase encounter success significantly.

Feeding Strategy

Feeds on microalgae, tiny crustaceans, and organic biofilm scraped from rock surfaces within its small territory.

Males guard nest holes and attract females with courtship displays. Eggs are deposited in small rock cavities and tended by the male.
