  • SizeUp to 7 cm total length, typically around 4 to 5 cm.
  • Social HabitSolitary and sedentary, resting on sandy patches among rocks. Cryptic and easily overlooked.
  • HabitatMixed rocky and sandy bottoms, often at the edges of boulder fields and reef patches.
  • Depth5 to 30 m.
  • Feeds OnTiny benthic invertebrates including amphipods and copepods.
  • DistributionEastern Atlantic from the British Isles to the Mediterranean Sea. Relatively poorly documented throughout its range.
  • DescriptionAn inconspicuous little goby that sits motionless on sandy patches and is easily passed over. It is one of the less well-studied Mediterranean gobies, partly because it is so difficult to distinguish from similar species in the field. Only reliably identified at close range by experienced observers.
